Traces, Echoes: Resounding Grantham's High Street (2021)

Sound Walk

'Tracing Echoes: Resounding Grantham’s High Street' Sound Walk, 35min Audio (2021)

Commissioned by Sound UK and Historic England, ‘Tracing Echoes’ is a sound walk of Grantham’s High Street developed with local residents. The piece serves as an abstract cinematic sonic journey immersing the listeners in the memories, echoes and traces of the local neighbourhood through sound. Using intergenerational voices, field recordings and archival sound, the piece explores the socio-cultural shifts of the hight street and questions how now abandoned shops, retail spaces and malls can be re-imagined in sonic terms, collectively.

The sound walk is a part of High Street Sound Walks - a series of self-guided, immersive sound walks to help people rediscover their local high streets. The piece was launched during Heritage Open Days in August 2021. High Street Sound Walks is a commission by Historic England, National Trust and Heritage Open Days with support from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery and produced by Sound UK.

Produced in association with Emilie Nunn and South Kesteven District Council.
